Does anybody know how to cut a snowmobile windshield?

I have a big bulky windshield that I know I could cut but I want to know that I am doing it right. I prefer/need a clean cut because I am cutting the windshield to make my snowmobile look nice. and shouldn't there be a rubber thing to put on the edge (that was just cut)?

I bought a car recently and didnt notice it has a star crack in it. It's about an inch wide but it looks like its going to spider crack sooner or later. I heard theres something you can put on it to keep that from happening. Does anyone know what you can do?
